소소한 이야기

Apple Inc. is one of the biggest company in IT industry. Macintosh is very famous product, although it couldn't be popularized to the people. Recently Apple Inc. have been making lots of issues because of its innovative products, such as iPod, iTune, iPhone and Apple TV. Apple went public on December 12, 1980 at $22.00 per share. The stock has split three times since the IPO so on a split-adjusted basis the IPO share price was $2.75.

제목과 목차만을 제출하는 것인지라 보고서 자체는 한장도 채우지 못했다.

제목은,

BSC 등의 시스템들을 살펴보고 성공요인, 실패요인을 찾는 것이 전반적인 내용이고
나는 그 중에서도 공공분야, 정부 기관을 대상으로 하게 될 듯 하다.

4월 26일에 MIS 발표도 있어서 많이 바쁘지 싶다.
중간고사도 4월 중순인가 그랬던 것 같은데, 에고...
생각해보니 막막하네 ;

Discrete Probability Distribution 중 일부의 명칭에 관한 이야기다.

Hypergeometric은 Binomial과 비슷하나 각각의 실험(? experiment)이 독립이 아니라는 차이점이 있다.
Negative Binomial은 Geometric의 일반적인 경우다.

무언가 이상하지 않은가?

여기서 생각해보자...
누군가, 혹은 몇몇 수학자들이 Binomial과 Geometric을 먼저 만들어내고 이름을 붙였을 것이다.
그리고 다른 사람들이 Negative Binomial과 Hypergeometric이라는 이름들을 만들었을 것이다.

가능성 1.
처음 Negative Binomial과 Hypergeometric을 만든 사람(혹은 사람들)은 제대로 만들었다.
- 여기서 "제대로"라 함은 의미가 나름 통해서 기억하기 쉽게 만들었다는 거다.
그런데 그 사람은 정리를 깔끔하게 할 줄 모르는 사람이었다.
페르마가 훌륭한 정리를 많이 만들었으나 노트 여기저기에 정리들을 끄적여놓아서 사후에 후배 수학자들이 고생했다는 이야기가 유명하듯이, 이 사람도 그랬던 것이다.
해서 후배들이 정리를 하는데... 멍청한 후배 수학자들이 이름을 뒤바꾸어버린 것이다.
단순한 실수였을 수도 있고, 선배를 싫어해서일수도 있고, 후대 수학을 공부할 학생들에게 심술을 부리고 싶었던 단순한 장난꾸러기였을지도 모른다.
해서...이상한(?) 이름이 나왔다.

가능성 2.
처음 Negative Binomial과 Hypergeometric을 만든 사람이 이름을 붙일 때, Binomial과 Geometric을 헷갈려했다.

가능성 3.
만든 사람도, 정리한 사람도 다들 잘 했는데 논문을 출판할 때 출판업자의 실수였다.

가능성 4.
이런 말도 안되는 해프닝이 아니라 정확한 이유가 있다.
(나는 관련자료를 전혀 찾아보지 않았음을 명시한다 -_-;; )
